Abstract

Due to the relatively high diffusivity of hydrogen, flame propagation properties such as the laminar flame speed is more influenced by the mass diffusion induced by high temperature gradients, a phenomenon known as Soret effect. Three-dimensional (3D) simulations of hydrogen combustion in a Cooperative Fuel Research (CFR) engine is conducted to study the influence of Soret effect. Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) is used to capture the in-cylinder flow field while the G-equation model is used to track flame propagation. The effects of using the mixture averaged approximation with and without Soret effect on flame propagation is examined. It is observed that including the Soret effect leads to a d..
